Overview

VCR utilizes three different café models as part of our comprehensive family-centered approach towards child well-being. Vitality Cafés focus on individual growth, Parent Cafés focus on strong families, and Community Cafés focus on positive community change.

Community Cafés are all about conversations that matter. We take community issues; we create a safe space for community members and stakeholders to talk; we learn and grow together; and we take action together.

Goals

The community has driven our selection of topics and goals for the Community Cafés. We start with a topic, develop questions that matter in order to spark conversation, and work together to create action plans for change. Topics have included transportation, education, and safety. Most recently, we are having conversations that matter with families and services providers regarding the child welfare system.

As a result of our first Community Café series, focused on transportation, several positive changes were implemented in conjunction with Metro St. Louis: 1. a text-on-demand service indicating bus arrival times; 2. an adopt-a-stop cleanup program; and 3. extended customer service hours.
