New programs and initiatives developed through Vision for Children at Risk and the Children’s Agenda include:
  • A $2.2-million, federally funded outreach program promoting prenatal care for expectant and young mothers in neighborhoods with high infant mortality.
  • Strategic Plan for Early Childhood Success in the City of St. Louis, in which agencies are working together on initiatives to improve early learning, endorsed by Mayor Francis Slay and funded by a $1-million federal grant.
  • Agency network and quality standards for afterschool and other nonschool-hour youth programs, providing resource-sharing and best practices to improve the effectiveness of these programs.
    A career-development program providing intensive assistance for youth in high-risk neighborhoods.
    Support for professional development of early child-care workers and credentialing of family support workers.
