April is Child Abuse Prevention Month: Kickoff Event April 13 Please join the St. Louis Family & Community Partnership for the April Child Abuse Prevention Month kickoff ceremony on Monday, April 13 at 10 a.m. at St. Louis City Hall. Throughout April, the Partnership seeks to educate the community about the importance of strengthening families as the most effective way to prevent child abuse. The kickoff ceremony will feature a giant blue ribbon, the national symbol of child abuse prevention. You will have the chance to sign it and express your support for the fight against child abuse. Main speaker will be Bobby Edwards, a former abused child and now a motivational speaker and mentor to youth. In addition, winners of the second annual Children’s Art Contest will be awarded; and proclamations from St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay and the Board of Aldermen will be presented During the week of April 12-18, look for the water in Kiener Plaza to be colored blue in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month. And throughout the month, dozens of child-care centers and schools will hold special activities supporting the fight against abuse and neglect. Show your support – this is our time to reach out and rededicate our community to strengthening families and eliminating child abuse. |
